5' 3" 144lbs - I ordered a size Medium. The material is soft and it's not too thick which is perfect for Texas winters. It's loose enough that I could wear a tank top underneath. Overall a great purchase for the price! Like the feel of denim in shorts for all day comfort Intro/pricing:I generally only write reviews on products that are defective or exceptional. This product is exceptional. It may look pricey, but I would say it is very fairly priced at $65-$85. If you go cheaper, you will sacrifice build quality so much.Quality:These ACTUALLY fit my expectation of what a "utility" kilt should be. Rugged, thick material that just feels right. It's almost like wearing a dang Carhartt! Straps are good quality. Belt holes/grommets don't look as flimsy as other reviews claimed. They aren't perfect, but I have seen worse (I do a fair bit of leather craft).Perks:3x buttons options on waist was amazing. So much adjustability for when you are starving on a hike or after you downed a few beers. I am still deciding on whether to exchange for a different color when they are in stock, or stick with the brown. The brown had some lighter stitching which I didn't love, but still looked clean.Other brands:I tried two other brands. Allsafe and UT kilts. The utility kilts from UT kilts did not even compare in quality and the price was only marginally cheaper. The standard UT kilt models are quite good though, so I don't know why they missed the mark on their utility line. Allsafe is straight budget. Evident in the materials. Conclusion:If you want something that feels like you aren't wearing a skirt that will blow up in the wind or tear on a bramble, this is the way to go. Whenever I decide on the color, I will wear this in the workshop. Way better than being hot in pants but is also thick enough to be warm in the winter (not full wool warm, but warm). Exactly what I wanted! These are comfy, dry well and there's nothing else to say…..well maybe they could have put a Hurley logo on the shorts somewhere. Awesome shorts. Fit as expected and can take a beating Everything is good I went back and forth on this and I’m so glad I bought it. I went up a size and it’s definitely BIG, but not sloppy. It’s a little shorter than I was hoping for but not a crop top either. Probably my favorite amazon purchase to date! I truly love these shorts Porque iba a viajar. Thinner material than I expected, but still comfy, cozy and fashionable. Shorts were just what I expected nice quality Liked the style and fit. Shorts had tag on them, but there appeared to be a patch of some sort. Pretty disappointed. I am a 18 year old high school senior and I've been searching over the past few months for shorts which allow me to look more professional than many of my peers without buying old man shorts. It's a hard market because I'm not the most stylish person and the shorts market is dominated by shorts for young adults with flashy colors and thigh tight fabric.I looked at these shorts because many other people gave good recommendations online about the Volcom shorts. They stop right at my knee, perfect length, the side pocket is not well shown in the pictures but is perfect for an iPhone or pen. The right pocket has a small cell phone pocket but my iPhone 5S only fits around 1/3 of the way in. For people with larger phones I'd be unsure if it would fit. Keys fit comfortably within however to protect your phone. I personally use my left pocket for my phone and baby that side. It felt awkward with it in the lower side pocket because it pulled the pants low. I like the belt loops which are reinforced for using a keychain on.Fit is actually really good, but ultimately it's the fit that keeps away that 5 star along with a few minor things. I wear a 31/32 in slim jeans and wear a belt and the 30 in these fits just below my hips, I wear my pants at my hips so I caught myself checking to make sure I wasn't flashing everyone when I was sitting. The stretch is such that casual walking will not stretch the fabric. Longer steps do but in the crotch which I feel sits much to low. I've worn the heather gray for two days now and they keep clean but don't have any stain guard kind of coating. I also bought the brown color but haven't worn them yet. The heather gray looked really good with black nike SB shoes and black socks with a graphic tee. What I didn't like about these shorts is the cell phone pocket being in what I felt was the wrong side. Also the back pockets are so long that when I sit down my wallet is halfway between by hip and knee. Sometimes this makes it feel like it's not there, but others creates uncomfort because it's a strange location. I'm sure I'll get used to it. When it said these pants were stetch I assumed a slim fit, which is obtained when wearing, but it doesn't feel slim, nor does the butt fit. It's much to long for my liking and is the only part that stretches when longer strides are taken. Also the zipper feels quite cheap and I trust Volcom it won't break but it feels hollow and not as premium as the price.I also own the billabong walkman shorts and levi's ace cargo, and each fits very nicely while each short having its own characteristics I like. These shorts make a good addition to my growing short collection and while I'd explore Volcom's other short styles for my next purchase, I will definitely look into the other colors of these shorts.I'd recommend these shorts to someone with long thicker-thighs like myself. I'm quite skinny but a runner and biker so my legs are large so shorts are hard to find accommodating. If you're looking for a standard looks good short look no further, these shorts rank just as high as any I own. Great Shorts ESPECIALLY when the Hubby wants Long Shorts!! Feels like the material can easily rip. But overall it’s comfy and cute.
